For entrepreneurs, it can seem like content marketing is taking over the planet!
Everyone’s talking about content. Creating content. Promoting content.
In fact, we probably have too much content.
Think about it - the internet is full of information on pretty much anything you could ever want to learn or do.
Type an idea into YouTube or Google, or even just have a look in your Facebook feed, and you will see a steady stream of content about anything and everything.
So why is it that we struggle as business owners to create really good content, and market it effectively?
Why then do we finally get around to creating one piece of content, put it out there... and it gets *absolutely no reaction*?
If this has happened to you, you understand how disheartening it can be!
The problem is there’s just SO much noise out there…
...and it’s not easy to catch people’s attention.
But the thing is, without content marketing, there’s only 2 main ways to drive leads to your business:
Paid traffic (expensive), and…
Referrals (not reliable)
Over the long term, content marketing is far CHEAPER and MORE RELIABLE than ANY other form of marketing.
And when done right, it can pay massive dividends - more leads, easier sales, and more free publicity.
Fortunately, there ARE ways to do content marketing effectively.
Yes, even in today’s hyper-competitive online world.
Let me share three rock-solid tips to get you moving.
1. Commit to a schedule
When you want to lose weight or gain muscle, you don’t just go to the gym once or twice, right?
You keep going.
Because consistency wins the prize.
90% of success is literally just showing up.
People look for a ‘secret’ or ‘ninja trick’ for succeeding with content marketing…
… but the single most important part of it is to -
JUST DO IT!!
Literally, just commit to a publishing schedule, and hold yourself accountable to it.
Find a fantastic coach or community who will rally around you, and keep you accountable to the commitment you are making to your business.
Because here’s the thing.
Content marketing is a long term game.
Kind of like changing your diet. You can’t just eat right one week and expect your body to change.
It’s slow burn… but if you stay consistent you WILL reap rewards 3, 6, 12 months down the track.
2. Be authentically YOU
People connect with PEOPLE. And there’s nobody else like YOU.
Be honest and authentic about who you are, and what you have to share.
Don’t pretend to be an expert if you’re not. People will appreciate you being raw and real.
If you have an opinion, share it.
If you’re going through something right now, share it.
If you had an experience others could learn from, share it.
Share your truth. Share your story.
Don’t try to be ‘perfect’ - it doesn’t exist. And perfection is boring anyway.
The fastest way to gain your audience’s attention is to be an honest and authentic voice in the crowd. Someone that people can TRUST.
3. Think about syndication
When you create a new blog or other piece of content, think about how you can repurpose it into content for other mediums.
Put your Facebook video on YouTube. Turn it into a blog. Create social media snippets from it.
Leverage one piece of work across many platforms to get your message out there - without doing much extra work.
There’s software that can help you with this.
Or you can hire a VA to take care of it for you.
But think about syndication. Create it once, and use it again. And again. And again…
