Do you ever feel like you’re never happy with what you’ve got?
So many people see happiness as a place in the future. A place they never quite get to.
They say “I’ll be happy when...”
- “I'll be happy when I earn six figures.”
- “I'll be happy when I lose 10 kilos.”
- “I'll be happy when my business goes nationwide."
Like the end of a rainbow, happiness is always over the next hill.
I used to be like that. I was always going to be happy WHEN...
When something new or ‘better’ was happening. A car. A relationship. A house. A financial goal. But what I found is that no matter what destination I reached... it never fulfilled me the way I thought it would. Instead, the moment I achieved the girl, the house, whatever… that sense of pride or achievement lasted about 5 seconds. And I was back to feeling restless, unsatisfied and frustrated.
What I finally realised after years of feeling unfulfilled by my achievements is this...
Happiness isn’t a destination. It’s a state of being.
And you can choose to find it within you at any time.
But here’s the kicker...
If you’re someone who always focuses on the negative, who is looking for reasons why things are crap, that’s all you’re going to find.
But if you start training your mind to look at the things in your life with a sense of gratitude, love and appreciation, the world will start to open up for you, right now.
Not ‘when’... but NOW.
The thing is – ‘I’ll be happy when’ is a trap.
If you can’t find a way to experience the state of mind you desire, whether it’s happiness, pride, or fulfillment in your daily life…no amount of achievement is magically going to get you there.
So I want you to do this.
Look into your life and what you want to achieve. It might be a certain profit level in your business, or a certain amount of free time each week.
Think about what that goal will *really* give you. I’m talking about your emotional payoff.
Because whenever we want to achieve something, subconsciously all we really want is how that achievement is going to make us feel.
And when we understand what we want to feel, we can actually start to look for ways to feel that way NOW.
It’s kind of a reverse-engineering way of doing things.
But in my experience coaching hundreds of business owners to success over the last 10 years, I’ve learned that to truly help someone achieve a goal, you must first understand WHY they want it on a deeper level.
Think about it – if you believe that a certain achievement will make you feel a certain way, and when you get there that feeling is momentary… you’ll end up feeling more lost and have a greater sense of separation.
But if you instead get clear on where you want to go, why you want to get there, and the feeling it’s going to give you, you can start working on feeling that NOW.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to spend a year of my life working to achieve a big goal, and feel the achievement of finally getting there for all of 5 seconds.
I’d rather feel joy, appreciation and love more consistently. On a daily basis, in fact. I want access to my own buffet of emotions, with the ability to choose what I’d like.
