If you spend any time on social media for your business, you’ve probably noticed a lot of people talking about ‘hustle’.
This buzzword is absolutely everywhere.
‘You’ve gotta hustle to make your dreams come true’
‘If you’re not hustling hard, you don’t want it enough’
‘Hustlers don’t sleep, they nap’
Loads of gurus are praising people who are up at 4am and working into the night to make stuff happen in their business.
It’s as though the only way to succeed in business is to become utterly obsessed with work above everything else.
You know what?
I think that’s a load of crap.
Sure, if you want to sacrifice time with your family, get 5 hours of sleep a night, and slowly forget what life looks like... that’s your choice.
But it’s just not necessary.
I’m proof of it, and so are my clients. At The Game Changers, we’ve worked with so many business owners to help them achieve significant results... and they’re certainly not working 12 hour days.
They are all proof that -
- You don’t have to work from 6am till 2am to be successful in business
- You don’t have to hustle so hard you lose your family and friends
- You don’t have to sacrifice everything now for some undefined goal in the future
Now, don’t get me wrong.
Success does take work. Nobody just woke up one day with a million bucks in their bank account by accident. You’ve gotta put in the time and effort to make it happen.
But throwing everything you have into one part of your life?
No thanks – I’ve done it before and just like an overloaded table, when one leg got too heavy, the whole table toppled over... sending everything crashing down.
So if you’re ‘hustling hard’ to keep your head above water, your mindset is the first thing that needs to change.
You see, everything starts with our internal belief system.
If you believe you need to hustle working an 80 hour week to be successful in business... that’s the exact situation you’re going to create for yourself.
Because our internal belief systems drive our actions.
And our actions drive our results.
Where focus goes, energy flows.
So think about this instead...
To build a more sustainable business (and balanced life – this is so important)... what beliefs of yours need to change?
I can’t let the reins go or things will slip
It’s difficult to find and retain great staff
Generating sales is really hard
I need to put in 60 hours a week to break even
... All these beliefs (and more) are just stories you’re telling yourself that keep you in the place you are right now.
For every single one of our clients, when we start to bust open these beliefs and replace them with new ones... that’s when their business starts to take off – profitably and sustainably.
